Prolific DJ, producer, label owner, promoter and radio show host Kid Fonque joined forces with Ballantine’s Scotch Whisky, a Pernod Ricard brand, in September 2019 for the True Music Tour across South Africa, Kid Fonque presents True Music Sessions. This week on Thursday, 17 October at 21:30, episode 4 will be giving viewers a glimpse into the musical genius behind Card On Spokes.
The concept of Kid Fonque Presents started in 2018 as a collaboration with Ballantine’s where Kid Fonque traveled to different cities in the country, hand picking the Dj’s on the line up and also creating a podcast called True Music Exchange. For the 2019 edition he joined forces with Ballantine’s, who since 2015 has supported credible music with a free-spirited sense of self-expression through their True Music project, and thus the Kid Fonque presents True Music Sessions was born.
In the TV show produced by Militia Broadcast, Kid Fonque and Ballantine’s have cherry picked artists that they love to showcase in the true sense of the word, doing things their way. This week’s episode will focus on Card On Spokes. The brainchild of Cape Town based jazz musician Shane Cooper, Card On Spokes is a live electronic music project that might best be described by one of his lyrics: “the dance of things to come”. Taking influence from hip hop to house music, and subtle colours from his jazz roots, he has crafted a unique style that is constantly evolving.
Other amazing and prolific artists featured on this season are as grand and diverse as South Africa’s landscapes and include; Lemon&Herb, Sió, Daev Martian, Ziyon, Jazzuelle, Kususa and Nonku Phiri.
Kid Fonque said on the project: “I have always resonated with non – commercial music, music that is not intended to be on national Top 20’s, True Music. My radio show has always championed the South African underground, presenting amazing sounds from diverse artists on a weekly basis and I can’t wait to do the same thing on
