Introducing Deep Marvin

Marvin Makhoba aka Deep Marvin is not only a HOUSE hold name in Osizweni (a township in Newcastle), but has come to make his mark over the club scene in KZN and South Africa as a whole.

The irony of his childhood is that he did less partying when he was young, and as a son of Pastor, this was to be expected. He never imagined that he would be the music conductor at several parties around South Africa.

Deep Marvin draws his inspiration from his friends and the passion he has for the music. The beginning of the new millennium aroused his curiosity of becoming a DJ but the move was held back until 2010 when he began taking the craft seriously.

In 2012, Deep Marvin started a podcast Pleasures of Intimacy where he shares some of the music he likes and also includes mixtapes from DJs all over the globe. Not only is it a Deep House podcast but it serves as a foundation of a deep movement that he wishes to see succeed one day.

Deep Marvin was fortunate enough to be made one of the resident deejays for the Strictly Deep Sessions at Uber Zulu (Florida Road) in 2014, This initiative aims to accommodate the mature crowd, who enjoy listening to more chilled music with a good beat and some jazzy elements in it.

The legendary House Music connoisseur Lars Behrenroth is someone that Deep Marvin looks up to and he would cherish the opportunity to share the stage with the head honcho behind Deeper Shades of House, one of the biggest House Music brands in the industry. Dedication, hard work and resilience make dreams come true, so in 2015 Deep Marvin hosted Lars Behrenroth for his POI Sessions launch.

With only 5 years the podcast has hosted some of the great names in the Deep House scene like Jesus Gonsev, Jazzman, Dj Russell, Shelli Diego, Dubbyman, Owen Jay, Addex, Uni DGeoff, Lee Da Cocktail.

His passion for the music has seen him share the decks with some of the legends in the deep scene like Vinny Da Vinci, Tim White, QB Smith, Nastee Nev, Lars Behrenroth, Kuniyuki Takahshi.

Some career achievements for Deep Marvin include:

– Two guest mixes on The Urban Beat (the biggest Deep House and Soulful House radio show in South Africa)

– A live DJ Mix on 1KZN (a TV channel on DSTV, the largest digital satellite TV service in Sub-Saharan Africa)

– Two guest mixes on one of the biggest House Music podcasts, Deep Shades Of House(DSOH)

– A debut international gig in Lesotho.
